{"id":540,"date":"2014-02-15T20:35:33","date_gmt":"2014-02-15T09:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lucazoid.com\/bilateral\/?p=540"},"modified":"2014-02-15T20:43:08","modified_gmt":"2014-02-15T09:43:08","slug":"personal-narrative-in-the-digital-age","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lucazoid.com\/bilateral\/personal-narrative-in-the-digital-age\/","title":{"rendered":"Personal Narrative in the Digital Age"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I participated in an online discussion with <a href=\"http:\/\/profiles.arts.monash.edu.au\/anna-poletti\/\">Anna Poletti<\/a>, as part of the 2014 Digital Writers Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Our discussion panel was entitled &#8220;Personal Narrative in the Digital Age&#8221;, and was archived on Youtube. You can watch it <a href=\"http:\/\/digitalwritersfestival.com\/events\/personal-narrative-in-the-digital-age\/\">here<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4xYeJfaCfJA\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We spoke about autobiography and its relationship to blogging and micro-blogging platforms. One of the interesting ideas coming from <a href=\"http:\/\/uwpress.wisc.edu\/books\/5058.htm\">Anna&#8217;s work<\/a> is that autobiography doesn&#8217;t need to be &#8220;written&#8221; or even &#8220;narrative&#8221; &#8211; it can be constructed unintentionally via a fragmentary collage of phatic publishing events (like &#8220;pokes&#8221; in facebook, or the curated uploading of bio-images and other professional data).<\/p>\n<p>We also talked about the current craving for &#8220;authenticity&#8221; and coherence, which may be the flipside of this more fragmented kind of identity formation process.<\/p>\n<p>I enjoyed the online discussion format &#8211; and I hope that more conferences can be run this way in the future &#8211; definitely less travel per unit of discourse!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I participated in an online discussion with Anna Poletti, as part of the 2014 Digital Writers Festival.
